Pillar 5 of 9
Spiritual Well-being
The anchor that holds when everything else moves.
A full calendar and an empty heart? You are not alone. I am Chris Ellison (BSW, MSW, MBA), and in nearly thirty years as a therapist I have heard that people can be busy, capable and still feel hollow.
What it means: this pillar is what you lean on when life shifts. For some people that is faith. For others it is deeply held values or a sense of something larger. No particular belief is required. A healthy version helps you face the rest of your life, not avoid it.
How it shows up in your life: a Sunday-evening dread that is not really about Monday, more things and less satisfaction, silence that feels uncomfortable, and worth that depends on being productive.
Try this today: the Forgiveness Inventory. Ask yourself one question: whose rent am I still paying? Most of us keep a grievance going like a storage unit: monthly payments, never visited. Name yours, and begin ending the lease. You are not doing it for them. You are doing it for you.
This is one of nine pillars in my book, A Life Well-Lived. Get the first word when it is ready. Next: Pillar 6, Financial Health →
