Pillar 8 of 9
Environmental Wellness
The sanctuary.
Does walking into your own home raise your stress? You are not alone. I am Chris Ellison (BSW, MSW, MBA), and in nearly thirty years as a therapist I have noticed how much the spaces and screens around us shape how we feel.
What it means: your surroundings are not neutral. The rooms you live in, the people you spend time with, the feeds you scroll and the time you spend outdoors all act on your mood every day, whether you notice or not.
How it shows up in your life: clutter that follows you from room to room, a phone that leaves you feeling smaller than before you picked it up, tension the moment you step through the door, and weeks without real time outside.
Try this today: the Environmental Contagion check. Change one thing in one spot. Clear one surface, mute one account that leaves you feeling worse, or take ten minutes outside. Notice how you feel afterward. Small changes in your surroundings often move your mood more than you expect.
